Religion; it has been with us since we started to get intelligent.
But what value does it have nowadays? What good is it and why do
so many people practice it?
"The crop's gone bad this year; there's a terrible drougth and all our stock died because of it."
"What have we done to deserve this?!"
There must be some other force that's causing this. Yes, let's blame someone.
Religions were created to explain things. And of all religions, the western ones seem to be the most moronic of all. There's this bearded guy sitting on a cloud somewhere and he's watching his creation ever since it existed. First he molded some object after his own image (after inventing the mirror, of course) and gave it life. The creature was lonely and seemed to need attention. Instead of the bearded guy keeping his creature some company, he pulled a rib out of the creature and created a second creature (man that must've hurt!).
Besides rediculous stories explaining what do to and don't, there had to be some motivation to keep his creatures on the right track, so the bearded guy let some angel he created rebel against him, then threw the angel to some hot place (for he is not veangeful) for eternity and also sends unloyal creatures to that hot place to be dominated by the rebelling angel.
The ultimate deterrant; if you don't stay within the rules, the bearded guy will send you to an awful place for eternity.
Ok, just stories to make people scared during their lives. Nothing harmful of course. Religion also brought us an enormous number of wars, surpression of females, surpression of science et cetera.
All this didn't change either; just now, we're starting to correct the wrongness. It seems very difficult to make women equal to men and holy wars still rage in some parts of the world.
And the curch is still behind; when will we see a female pope shouting "merry easter" in some weird accent?!
When will people realize that nice bearded guy (also a man, of course and if he exists) doesn't want people to fight wars based on differences in religion?! Or fight wars at all?
A religious person in the army really is a contradictio in terminis, and seeing how many people are religious in the western countries, it's not too hard to find one either! But if those people just say their prairs, it's going to be alright for them. It looks like the bearded guy likes attention.
We solved most of the mysteries we invented religion for. We know how we were created thanks to Darwin. Religion tried to stop scientific advances in almost any step it took. Religion is just another world power and we all know power corrupts.
